At NVIDIA, I was one of the core algorithm developers of the HD map based visual localization solution that opened the door to NVIDIA's lidar-free autonomous driving as demonstrated below.
NVIDIA 80 km highway self-driving powered by our visual localization solution.
October 2018, NVIDIA's autonomous car completed an 80-kilometer route in Silicon Valley, without the safety driver ever taking control.
The car handled highway on- and off-ramps and numerous lane changes entirely on its own, marking a significant step toward a self-driving future.
Hands-free self-driving from NVIDIA campus to Highway 101
This is powered by our visual localization solution based on an HD map generated by NVIDIA's in-house mapping method. Despite the imperfect map quality, the localization module works accurately and robustly to enable the lidar-free self-driving from local to highway.
